This past summer I spent some time in Myrtle Beach and tried to tame the Lion's Paw golf course, with little to no success :-) My buddy and I enjoyed the course very much. It was a challenging course for us because we are beginners, but we enjoyed the nice landscape and beautiful views along the course. We can't wait to come back next year with a little more golf experience under our belts. If you're in the area and haven't given it a try, I definitely recommend it!

I know these 3 clips have nothing to do with sports, but I thought that it would be entertaining because all you need to do is laugh sometimes. I will probably post 3 videos every so often so stay tuned, I guess:

Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major golf tournament victories is safe. Eldrick Woods will not catch him.
There, I said it. I was going to say it after he missed the cut at the British Open. Y.E. Yang's takedown of Eldrick at the PGA Championship on Sunday (The Win and the Yang? Choking Tiger, Hidden Dragon?) leaves no doubt in my mind.

Being a baller, I tend to play basketball a lot. The other day I was balling, and some other ballers challenged me and my baller bros to a game of full-court. FULL COURT. I suck at full court.

Tiger Woods is the biggest icon in the sports world today.
No athlete has transcended his sport the way the man with the most famous fist pump ever has transcended the game of golf. Countless fans tune in to golf tournaments only to check Tiger's progress. His popularity has made several other golfers rich because of his appeal as a marketing instrument.

Drop the act Kobe. I'm not buying it.
First there was Jordan. He coined the tongue out of the mouth. He was Mr. Cool. A smooth pump of his fist when he nailed a game winning jumper was all he needed. There was no question of whether it was a genuine reaction. Jordan was all natural.

Florida is a Golfer’s haven and has been one of the top spots to hit the greens. Frankly, I think it’s a bore and the humidity doesn’t support my goal of looking hot on the links. My hair goes flat, make-up runs down my face and I suffer from what the locals refer to as Swamp Ass. You can figure it out. I drunkenly golfed many of Orlando’s renowned courses but none caught my affection more than that of Sugarloaf Mountain.

Well, he did again. Another amazing piece to the puzzle that is Tiger Woods. The questions I am asked most often is how does he do it? Can he do it again? And lastly, why can't anyone else do it.

The lesson? Golf stinks without him. Sorry Fuzzy Zoeller, but it’s true.

Who is the best player, of their individual sport? It is a question commonly asked, and so rarely is there a diffinitive answer. With each sport, there are many players, who throughout the years, have given all of us fans reasons to say that this player or that player is the best. Now, when asking someone, "What is the biggest achievement in sports?", there is only one answer, and that is, win a championship. There are a lot of players, who have the numbers to argue their status as the best player of their sport, but if they don't have a championship to their name, they are automatically taken out of the conversation. Dan Marino posted great numbers as the quarterback of the Miami Dolphins, posting many records, but is never considered one of the best NFL players of all time simply because he never won the Super Bowl. So, if not having any rings automatically takes you out of the conversation of best player ever, shouldn't having the most automatically put you in the conversation for the best? As research shows, not only is that not always the case, in fact, it rarely is. In fact, there are only two sports were the top championship getter, is also considered the best that sport had to offer, Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. in Nascar tie with 7 championships, and Jack Nicklaus with 18 golf majors. Other than those two sports, all other leading championship players, are rarely heard of. Who is the greatest NFL player of all time? Name all the names that come into your head when asked that question, and there is a lot....Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, etc...now who has the record for most Super Bowl rings? The name is Charles Haley, played from 1986-1999, won 5 Super Bowl rings. The biggest surprise about Charles Haley, is not only does he not get a single vote for best NFL player of all time, he is yet to be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. Now, he has only been eligible for the NFL Hall of Fame since 2004, but he has not even made the list of top 15 finalists. He is the only player with the most championships not to be inducted into that sports Hall of Fame, and although the names may sound familiar, still none are considered the best.

When it comes to golf, getting “fit” really has two meanings. Since Tiger Woods came on the scene and started the fitness craze in golf people generally think of the term in the sense of getting into the gym and working out. Although important and beneficial to your health, this doesn’t always necessarily help your golf game. Recently I had the chance to experience the other type of “fit”, a professional fitting with the Titleist FittingWorks. I used to think I knew a lot about equipment; I really enjoy learning about the new models that are coming out, what each player on tour is playing etc., but after my fitting I realized that I don’t even begin to know anything about equipment.

I love sports. That is probably an obvious statement seeing as I do have a sports blog, but I wanted to make that clear before I dig into ESPN’s ESPY awards show.
Let’s be honest, the ESPY’s are incredibly lame. Just like the NBA all-star game, I liked them when I was 12, but seeing as I am older now, my interest has passed. Now, just like many lame things, they ESPY's has its moments. Most notably it’s “images” of the previous year and the Arthur Ashe Award for courage. Both are great. Other than that, the entire show is a flop.

On the eve of the Dodgers playing the Giants a few hours from now, and the NBA turning on it’s head with constant movements, I find myself watching: The 2008 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Championship. I always seem to catch myself watching this every year, totally disgusted with what I’m watching and with myself for being so interested. This is one of the reasons the rest of the world hates what America stands for. Gluttony. People are eating more hot dogs in 12 minutes than the rest of the world sees in their entire lifetime. ESPN tries to make this a legitimate “sporting” event like rock, paper, scissors tournament, but generally people don’t buy it. Not even the “athletes” believe themselves to be partaking in anything but a gorge-fest.

Like many others, watching PGA professionals play the sport I love sparks awe in me similar to that of a three-toed sloth watching a NASCAR race. The ease in which they manage their rounds, the touch of their putts, and of course, the accuracy of their wedge play. However, a once a year, we golf fans get a treat. The 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass.

Yep, you heard me right. Tiger Woods is under-appreciated. He may be appreciated by the die-hard sports and golf fans and some of the media. But, by and large, I don't think so. For those that have given golf a try, you know how hard it is. For those that have played it at a high level competitively, it's absolutely astonishing what Tiger is doing. Why? Because it's simply not a game that's as easy as he's making it look. It's a game that screws with your head and pulls out the demons from within. Take some quite, shy guy on the golf course and you'll see and hear things that you never thought was possible from that same guy. Thus, my main argument is that Tiger's head/brain/mind is SOOOOO underrated and under-appreciated.

Our most recent example of bad golf writing comes from Golf Week's Beth Ann Baldry.
No LPGA player has ever held all four majors at the same time. Pat Bradley came the closest, starting with the British in 1985, then winning the 1986 Kraft Nabisco and McDonald's Championship.

Tiger had knee surgery last week. Jason Sobel at ESPN writes-
If Woods is indeed Superman, his kryptonite may be that left knee, which has now required three separate surgeries. He previously had a benign tumor removed in 1994, and in late 2002, he underwent a similar procedure to his most recent surgery, proving he may not be invincible, but he is indestructible. After his second surgery, he returned neither gimpy nor rusty, winning in his first start at Torrey Pines and taking two of the next three titles as well.

The late May tournament could be in danger. Caddy blogger Larry writes-
This is not a good sign: The down turn in the economy may be hitting our sponsor pretty hard. Rumor has it there was a meeting earlier this week concerning the Ginn Tribute to be held in Charleston. To cut costs, Ginn offered to forfeit the purse money and forego the event but was convinced otherwise. In gambler lingo, they were "pot committed" so it made sense not to cancel.

Super Mex once again dominated an LPGA event this year. While most of the media and golf fans are following the Masters this weekend, Lorena with her victory today in Mexico earned enough points to qualify for the World Golf Hall of Fame. Lorena has to play ten years on tour before being inducted. Since Lorena's rookie year was 2003, her induction will be in 2012.

The first major championship of the 2008 golf season begins in Rancho Mirage California. 109 players will begin teeing it up this morning. One who won't be playing, is Nicole Perrot. She missed her tee time in yesterday''s pro-am. This causing Perrot to be removed from the field. The defending champion is 19-year-old Morgan Pressel. She won the 2007 Kraft Nabisco by one shot over Suzann Pettersen, Brittany Lincicome and Catorina Matthew.

Six days and not counting. This might be the first time in 20 years or so that I haven't been checking days off my calendar on route to opening day. In fact, until right now, 2pm on Wednesday (we'll call it a long lunch break) I haven't even watched more than an inning of a Boston Red Sox spring training game. What's wrong with me? Am I sick? Has two World Series Titles in four years spoiled me? Is it because the Big Schill got hurt and I'll miss seeing his lack of spring training stomach? Or could it be because Coco Crisp just scooped up a ground ball to his right and when trying to throw it in to second, the ball went about 10 feet straight into the ground? (You know opposing Scouts just dropped their offer of a 50th round pick to 100th round pick for Coco straight up). The answer is no, no, no and no. The truth of the matter is, for the time being anyway, my usual Fenway fever has been sidetracked by the Gang Green.

No, not just big-name PGA Tour golfers like Tiger Woods or Vijay Singh, but large men that announcers feel the need to point out. As Mark Calcavecchia was walking to his next shot at the Mercedes-Benz Championship, the broadcasters could not help commenting on his physique. This was not only one time either folks – it happened each and every time he was shown making a shot. They simply couldn’t resist and had to mention how heavy he is - cracking jokes about exercise and dietary choices. This phenomenon is not only reserved for Mr. Calcavecchia but haunts every golfer that is not built like Tiger Woods or Zach Johnson. John Daly and Craig “The Walrus” Stadler certainly get their share of ribbing as well.

In what is probably the least shocking sports story of 2007, Tiger Woods was named player of the year on Monday for the 9th time in 11 years.
Woods’ 2007 resume was impeccable. He began the year by extending his tournament winning streak to a mind-boggling seven-in-a-row, and capped it off by claiming his 13th major and the inaugural Fed Ex Cup.
